A bustling village street scene with figures & animals
Watercolour on paper
Signed 'J. Boyd'
Julius Middleton Boyd was an officer of the English East India Company stationed
in Western India during the mid 19th century. An album of thirty-six drawings
of landscapes and monuments by him, mainly of locales in Western and Central
India, is currently in the collection of the British Library. The present
scene is possibly set in Baroda, Gujarat. The preliminary drawings for these
watercolours are with the British Library.
