This chest on a Stand has its genesis in the neo-classical movement in Europe
of the 1820s and 1830s. The muscularity of the design added to the exuberance
of the carving have produced a magnificent object. One which may well have
been made for one of the International Exhibitions held in Europe in the 19th
century.
The Chest and Stand are a fusion of two cultures, which has resulted in an
important and beautiful piece of furniture.
