Charles Edwin Fripp was born in London, one of the twelve children of George
Arthur Fripp (1822 – 1895), a landscape artist, and Mary Percival.
Fripp painted military subjects in watercolour. He worked as a correspondent
for’ The Graphic’ during the Boer Wars. He exhibited 23 times
at the Royal Watercolour Society. Fripp also exhibited twice at the RA, ‘The
Last Stand at Isandilula’ and ‘The Attack on General Sir John
McNeill’s forces near Saukin’ in 1885 and 1886.
The former is now in the National Army Museum in London, England, while the
latter is in the collection of the Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regimental Museum
at Salisbury, England, having been presented to the Royal Berkshire Regiment
in January 1929. Fripp died in Montreal.
