...Passion from a Falcon-eye?
Recent Paintings Inspired by India
Wednesday 27th November -
Saturday 21st December, 2013
This exhibition is a homage to colour. Inspired by Matisse, Will Alsop has
indulged his passion for colour, which he uses in his architecture as he has
done in these paintings. However as Ruskin states: that, while form is absolute,
so that you can say at the moment you draw any line that it is either right
or wrong, colour is wholly relative.
Using the discipline of his architectural background the forms in the paintings are, in Ruskin's terms, absolute, but added to this is the extraordinary use and love of colour.
Will sees not with the lens of the eye but through that, and by means of that, he sees with the soul of the eye.

Will Alsop - Artist's statement
The paintings for this exhibition were stimulated by looking at birds in my
garden in London. The birds chosen are primarily Indian, of which many are
under threat, or indeed already extinct.
The birds are colourful and act as a starting point for making a painting.
Each work is a series of decisions to make – of which the most difficult
one is to decide when they are finished.
Evolution is becoming a more important part of my work, both in architecture,
as well as painting. With age rules become replaced by experience. Concept
gives way to trust.
The ultimate is to achieve satisfaction in having ‘no idea.
